Congrats to you!

I wanted to get back to you on Rosetta Stone (you asked on our blog). Matt used it and it was pretty good. Its expensive and a lot of work.

I think it really depends on how old you anticipate your child to be or what you want to learn. For example, our children are speaking and so we needed to use phrases you don't find in Berliz like "do you have to pee?" "poop" "don't run" and "dog".

Rosetta Stone starts out with important words like dog, cat, man, woman, girl, boy, dance, sing, jump, plane, car, table, on, under, in. And colors, numbers, plates, swim, bird, etc. These were great to understand and use words to communicate. I never got far enough to say I can hold a conversation... I just learned some phrases and words that came in handy.

There are some great other resources that are less expensive and are specific to children, one booklet is free and accessible online and there are two others that I used that you have to pay for and come with CDs. These are specific to childrens phrases. There is also learn russian in your car and some others that are specific to getting around - like "where is the bathroom" and "I need a train ticket". We needed both kinds of phrases - travel and childrens. I hope I answered your question. You can access links to some of these resources from this post on my blog http://missionbaby.blogspot.com/2008/03/dwindling-to-do-list-update.html

While in Kaz I also had our translator help me with specific phrases that weren't in anything like "stay in bed", "its late", "don't fool around", and :"behave". I'll post them on my blog when I get a chance.
